The 2017 SOCAMATYC Conference will be held on Friday and Saturday, February 24-25.
Here are a few conference highlights:
Friday 2/24 : 1.5 Hour Workshop & Dinner
PRESENTER: Eden Donahou, Professor Mathematics/Endowed Teaching Chair Seminole State College of FL.
TITLE: Enhancing and improving developmental mathematics instruction and learning outcomes by answering: When will I ever use this Math?
When will I ever use this Math? More than ever, students want to have relevancy to what we require of them. With real-world connections, interactions and activities, we can provide many answers. Increasing student engagement, enhancing teaching, learning and the retention of knowledge all helps students relate and better apply and understand mathematics. The presenter will share many of her treasures including gems from an AIM "Achievement in Math" student success workshop. This session is designed to be interactive and informative. We'll close with a group discussion about best practices for teaching mathematics along with the appropriate use of calculators and technology in the classroom, thus participants are encouraged to bring some of their own jewels to share!
· Saturday 2/25 : Professional Development sessions, Elections of 2017 – 2019 officers, Business meeting, Lunch, and more.
